ZIL - Convention Center, Hotel, Office and Retail Complex
A Multifunctional Complex in Park of Legends

About the project
The project works with the context of the former ZIL industrial territory and its new urban role. It is based on a combination of a contemporary multifunctional program and references to the industrial heritage of the place.

Idea
One of the client’s requirements was to preserve the silhouette of a historic arch from a demolished factory building. The prototype of the arch, measured on site, was transferred to the façade of the two-storey part of the building on the side facing the Hockey Museum.

Architecture
The building is composed of volumes of different heights. A one-storey stylobate runs along the pedestrian zone of the Third Transport Ring and brings all parts of the complex together. The office block becomes the center of the composition, while the hotel volume completes it and acts as the dominant element. The two-storey volume with historic arches is dedicated to the restaurant. The brick façade helps preserve the connection with the architecture of the former industrial territory and brings a more human scale to the complex.

Project Features
One of the key challenges was to integrate the building into the existing terrain. Street retail is located along a façade more than 100 meters long, and each unit needed to have a convenient entrance at ground level. The solution was to shift the façade deeper into the site and create a level area in front of the entrances.
